We have recently been reminiscing about Worzel Gummidge and Aunt Sally, we have had some very comical discussions remembering Worzel’s many heads and his love of taking tea and cake with Aunt Sally. This show aired from 1979 to 1981 but to us it seems like yesterday.
Never ones to miss an opportunity to throw a themed party, the team at Mareham House put their thinking heads on and hatched a plan to reunite Worzel and Aunt Sally one more time.
Monday morning, we were up bright and early making our very own Worzel, there was straw and newspaper everywhere, but we did not mind a bit. Most of us had never even attempted to make a scarecrow before and it really was a lot of fun, it was even funnier when someone suggested using a photograph of Daniel, the managing director to make the face.
Later that day we were invited to take afternoon tea in the tearoom, we were told to expect some very special guests. Imagine our surprise when we walked in to find tea being served by Worzel and Aunt Sally and our handmade scarecrow sat at the head of the table.
The team had transformed the tearoom into a countryside farmhouse and there on the table were an array of homemade scones and a beautifully decorated scarecrow cake, the aromas wafting from the room were truly amazing. We ate our fill but somehow still managed to find room for an ice-cream when the van arrived later that day.
We cannot thank the team enough for making this such a special afternoon. Jackie, Georgia and Karen had really gone the extra mile for us, their costumes were fabulous. And Becky had outdone herself with the cake.
We love having the opportunity to partake in activities such as this. The time, effort and creativity that goes into planning these events does not go unnoticed and is very much appreciated. We are all very hopeful that Worzel and Aunt Sally may pop by again one day. There will always be a cup of tea and a slice of cake waiting for them just in case.
