The Abbeygate cinema in Bury Saint Edmunds was built in the 1920s, it has had a facelift or two over the years, but it has never lost its 20s charm. The cinema has a stylish box office and three screens all fitted with comfortable reclining chairs and cosy sofas.

The cinema has been a popular venue for families over the last 100 years and is loved by all who have visited. The cinema caters to all tastes with a schedule that includes family favourites, old classics, and new releases, it also hosts live theatre shows.

Last Saturday afternoon our lifestyle team organised a special trip for Margaret. Margaret visited the cinema frequently when she was young and was very keen to make a return visit. Abbeygate cinema, or the pictures as Margaret calls it were showing the new railway children film, The Railway Children Return and Margaret was keen to see it having enjoyed the original when it was released back in 1970.

It was such a special afternoon; beautiful and familiar surroundings, a fabulous feel-good film, and a nice cup of tea, you can’t go wrong with that.

On the way home Margaret recounted previous visits and spoke of them with great affection, the Abbeygate has obviously meant a lot to her over the years, we will definitely be going back.
