Autumn has officially arrived. The temperature has dropped a little and the nights are beginning to draw in. Summer is over for another year.
At Marham we never pass up the chance to celebrate and this week we got together to say goodbye to Summer in style. Whilst we are all happy to welcome in the Autumn months with their rich colours and promises of Halloween parties and fireworks, we wanted to have one last hurrah to summer, and we did so with a bang.
Our tearoom is such a pretty room with its flowered wallpaper and pastel furniture. It is the perfect venue for a get together. This week it was given a special makeover in preparation for our soiree. The Sunflower Social.
There were sunflower tablecloths, banners, decorations and sunflower garlands. The room looked beautiful, bright and summery. Our chef Isobel created a charming sunflower cake, we all agreed it would be a shame to cut it although we didn’t protest too much when she did, it was delicious.
We had a wonderful afternoon, drinking tea, eating cake and sharing our favourite summer memories. We heard about summer holidays, school camping trips, picnics and day trips. We exchanged stories of barefoot paddling, of winkle picking and of boat trips and fish and chips. We looked back over the events of this summer and the joy we all felt about finally having our families visiting again.
This year has had its challenges, but we have come through it together and as we say goodbye to summer and its golden splendour we look forward to autumn, to hearing the crunch of leaves underfoot, to the nights drawing in and the smell of bonfires and fireworks in the air. I’m sure that the team here have some fabulous events planned for us to look forward to, all we have to do is sit back and enjoy them.
